Hokkaido University's Field Science Center for Northern Biosphere, Renewable Energy Research & Education Center, and Institute for the Advancement of Sustainability will jointly host a seminar entitled "The Junction of GX and Nature Positive - A Breakthrough in Resolving Trade-Offs Together with Hokkaido University" on Friday, March 6th.
Last November, Hokkaido University held a seminar entitled "Lessons Learned from GX and a Vision for the Future of Nature Positive," where participants discussed the difficulties and possibilities of measuring the value of natural capital. This second seminar will take the discussion a step further and address more pressing issues in the "implementation" phase.
Decarbonization (GX) and biodiversity conservation (nature positive). These two are essential for a sustainable future, but when it comes to implementing them in society, they can sometimes create a complex trade-off where "one cannot be achieved without the other." This seminar will approach this difficult issue based on the scientific knowledge of Hokkaido University. We will unravel the structure of the trade-off, how to overcome it, and how to incorporate it into effective "system design." We will discuss realistic and scientific "breakthrough solutions" from the perspectives of industry, government, and academia.
