Hokkaido University Museum will hold the 11th Saturday Public Seminar of 2025, "Brown Bears x Student Club = Hokkaido University Bear Research Group - The Secret to Continuous Citizen Science Research," on February 14th.

2025 has been the year of the bear, with much coverage of bears and the kanji character "bear" being chosen as the year's kanji. However, the ecology of bears is still not well understood. Meanwhile, the Hokkaido University Brown Bear Research Group, commonly known as the Bear Lab, has been gathering basic knowledge about the brown bears that live in Hokkaido.

The Bear Lab is a student citizen science group that continues to operate, and the results of its activities have been compiled in the form of the club magazine "Brown Bear News" and academic papers, and have been published to the public. This seminar will introduce the activities of the Bear Lab, the challenges that come with being citizen science, and how the Bear Lab has overcome these challenges.
