Faculty of Health Sciences at Hokkaido University will hold the 10th Health Science Seminar of 2025, "Pathological Verification Experiments for the Development of an Early Diagnostic Program for Alzheimer's Disease Using MRI," on February 6th.
With the widespread adoption of pathology-modifying therapies for Alzheimer's disease (AD), diagnostic support based on pathological information on amyloid beta (Aβ) at an early stage has become important in clinical practice. However, current Aβ assessment relies on limited methods such as amyloid PET and cerebrospinal fluid testing, which face challenges such as disparity in access and limited testing capacity due to invasiveness, cost, and uneven distribution of facilities. In this presentation, we will outline the development status of a potential breakthrough early diagnosis program that noninvasively estimates Aβ pathology from MRI images, and report on the design concept and prospects for pathological validation experiments to ensure its academic validity.
