In order to realize a society in which the pride of the Ainu people is respected, Hokkaido University established Office of Ainu Relations and Initiatives in April 2022 to plan and design policies at the university and realize coexistence between the Ainu people both on and off campus and other members of the university.
As part of its efforts, Office of Ainu Relations and Initiatives has been conducting training every year since 2019 to deepen faculty and staff members' understanding of the Ainu people. From 2021 onwards, the target audience has been expanded to all faculty and staff members, including part-time staff. Our university has students and faculty members with Ainu roots, and we believe that deepening the understanding of the Ainu people among all faculty and staff members will help to create an environment in which these students and faculty members can focus on their studies, education, research and work with peace of mind.
In fiscal year 2025, in addition to the seven lessons released up to last year, one new advanced lesson has been added and training is being conducted in an on-demand format.
