As part of their collaboration based on a partnership agreement on the theme of "Creating a Sustainable Society," Hokkaido University and Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. (hereinafter "JAL") held a joint training session for JAL cabin crew entitled "High-Level Care for Pregnant Women" at Haneda Airport on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

The training instructor was Associate Professor Takeshi Umazume from the Obstetrics and Perinatal Maternal and Child Center at Hokkaido University Hospital, which is run by Hokkaido University. Participants learned about the initial response required when a pregnant woman's condition changes in the unique situation of being on board an aircraft. This was the first time that medical professionals were invited to provide specific training to active cabin crew. Based on the knowledge of obstetrics and neonatal medicine held by Hokkaido University Hospital, the training included case studies and simulations of specific symptoms such as low blood pressure and abdominal pain, as well as practical lectures on situations where a pregnant woman's condition suddenly changes on an aircraft.

Hokkaido University and JAL will continue to collaborate across industry boundaries to address various social issues, including human resource development.
