Hokkaido University has been recognized for its carbon neutral initiative, the "Hokkaido University GHG Inventory," and has been awarded the "Sustainable Campus Award 2025" by the Sustainable Campus Promotion Council (CAS-Net JAPAN).

The Sustainable Campus Award is a system that recognizes outstanding examples of sustainable campus construction at universities, and with the aim of contributing to the creation of a sustainable, environmentally conscious society, the award has been presented every year since its inception in 2015. This is the fourth time that our university has received the award, following in 2015, 2019, and 2024.

The Hokkaido University GHG Inventory, which was evaluated this time, systematically compiles data on the university's greenhouse gas emissions and creates a highly reliable database that complies with international standards. It covers seven greenhouse gases: CO₂, CH₄, N₂O, HFCs, PFCs, SF₆, and NF₃, and covers all of the university's bases and activities. This initiative has provided a comprehensive understanding of the university's overall emissions situation, laying the foundation for future reduction plans and implementation phases.
