The Hokkaido University Institute for the Promotion of Business-Regional Collaboration and Faculty of Fisheries Sciences will hold a seminar entitled "The Future of Fisheries Business: What Can Universities Do?" on December 1st.
In recent years, against the backdrop of global climate change and changes in food supply and demand, the fishing industry is facing new challenges: balancing sustainable resource use with a stable food supply. At the Hokkaido University Faculty of Fisheries Sciences, we are leveraging our many years of experience in basic research and field science to promote a wide range of research aimed at realizing the next generation of fishing, including smart aquaculture technology, marine ecosystem monitoring, the use of blue carbon, and applications in healthcare. We have decided to hold a forum to discuss the social implementation of research results and the possibility of creating new value, under the theme of "The Future of Fishing Business through Industry-Academia-Government Collaboration." The event will include a speech by the Director-General of the Fisheries Agency, followed by an exchange of opinions on the current state and outlook for the fishing industry from the perspectives of industry, academia, and government.
