A summer camp combining nature experiences and inquiry-based learning on the theme of "SDGs" was held in Assabe Towntwice, from August 4th (Monday) to 7th (Thursday) and from August 18th (Monday) to 21st, with the overall supervision of the Hokkaido University Graduate School Education Promotion Organization and public relations cooperation from the Public Relations and Community Collaboration HeadquartersInstitute for the Advancement of Graduate Education

This program, "Assabu Summer Camp 2025 - 6 days to nurture the future of children and the community," was organized by Kitchen Hike Co., Ltd., and a total of 25 undergraduate and graduate students from Hokkaido University (12 for the first session, 13 for the second session, one of whom was from another university) participated as support teachers (STs), accompanying the children in their learning.

The direction of this program was decided through repeated discussions between Assabe Town, Hokkaido University, and Ezolink LLC, a Hokkaido University-certified startup, with Ezolink planning the learning design and Hokkaido University overseeing it. Kitchen Hike also ran the program in line with this direction, providing support for ST students with accommodation, meals, and transportation, working together with all parties involved to support the program.

A total of 40 people (20 for the first session, 20 for the second session) participated in the camp, including elementary school students from Assabe Town and those staying in the town on a regional study abroad program. On the first day of the camp, after an icebreaker led by ST students, the students participated in a workshop combining Ezolink's decarbonization learning program, "Carbon Quest," and "LEGO® Serious Play®," and learned about the connection between people and nature through a "carbon journey."

On the second and third days, Assabe Town led the field activities, where children walked to experience interactions with nature and people, deepening their learning with the accompaniment of ST students. On the final day, Assabe Town reviewed the program and Ezolink summarized the learning, including screening a video reviewing the four days edited by ST students. This summer camp also provided a practical learning opportunity for students, and was a good example of "Hokkaido University x SDGs," linking education, community development, and research. Institute for the Advancement of Graduate Education and the Public Relations and Social Affairs Divisionwillcontinue to work with local governments and companies to provide learning opportunities for the next generation of children aimed at achieving the SDGs.
