The Educational Issues Research Group of the Oceanographic Society of Japan and the Uehiro Department of Oceanography at the Graduate Faculty of Fisheries Sciences, Hokkaido University, will be co-hosting the 33rd Ocean Science Cafe, "Go on a Journey Around the Arctic Ocean with the Icebreaker Polarstern!," on September 28th, in collaboration with Science Support Hakodate and the ArCS3 Biodiversity Project.
Do you know how sea ice in the Arctic Ocean has been changing recently? Sea ice in the Arctic Ocean has a major impact on the climate of the Northern Hemisphere where we live. At this event, researchers who have actually participated in Arctic observations will talk in an easy-to-understand manner about the changes occurring in the Arctic Ocean and the types of observations they are conducting there. In particular, they will share some fresh anecdotes about the observations and life on board the German research vessel Polarstern in July and August of this year!
