The Hokkaido Branch of the IDE University Association will hold the 2025 Hokkaido Branch Seminar on September 1st, co-hosted by Hokkaido University.

To date, national, public, and private universities in Hokkaido have cultivated excellent human resources and sent them out into the local community, contributing to regional development and problem-solving in various ways. However, rapid social change has brought about major shifts in the knowledge and skills required in the region. In response, recurrent education, or re-education for working adults, is gaining attention as one way forward. Through recurrent education, the region can expect to disseminate new knowledge, such as digital transformation and globalization, which are essential for solving future problems. For universities, recurrent education can help break away from traditional university management centered on the 18-year-old population and cultivate new learners. This IDE seminar will invite experts and practitioners from both within and outside Hokkaido to explore ways in which national, public, and private universities in Hokkaido can continue to serve as the "core of regional revitalization" that inspires creativity and vitality in the region.
This seminar was planned with the support of the Recurrent Education Institute for the Advancement of Graduate Education, and will be held in a hybrid format, combining face-to-face and online sessions, with the support of the Open Education Center. We look forward to the participation of many university-related people who are interested in this theme.
