UArctic (the University of the Arctic), a network of educational and research institutions to which Hokkaido University is a member, is calling for students for the “Circumpolar Studies Online Course” to be offered in the fall and winter semesters (September to December and January to April).

 

The Circumpolar Studies Online Course is an undergraduate online course on the Arctic offered by UArctic member universities through an online education system. There is no cost. The course is taught in English.

    • CS 100 (GEOG: 1045H-W-F01/NOST 101): Introduction to the Circumpolar World
    • CS 311 (GEOG-2320H-W-F01): Lands and Environments of the Circumpolar North I
    • CS 321 (INDG-3745H-W-F01): Peoples and Cultures of the Circumpolar World I
    • CS 331 (GEOG-3390H-R-F01): Contemporary Issues of the Circumpolar World I
    • CAST-2810H-R-F01: Canada’s People and Places
    • CAST-3241H-W-F01: Histories of the Canadian North
Winter Semester:
  • Courses:
    • CS 100 (GEOG-1045H-W-F01 / NOST 101): Introduction to the Circumpolar World
    • CS 312 (GEOG-2330H-W-W01): Lands and Environments of the Circumpolar North II
    • CS 322 (INDG-3750H-W): Peoples and Cultures of the Circumpolar World II
    • CS 332 (GEOG-3640H-W-W01): Contemporary Issues of the Circumpolar World II
    • CAST-3243H-W-W01: The Contemporary Canadian North in a Circumpolar Context

 

How to apply

Please submit the following by 17:00 on August 20 by e-mail to the International Affairs Department, Hokkaido University (e-mail: global@oia.hokudai.ac.jp).

  1. Online Course Registration Form (Word)
    *Please fill out in English.
    *Please sign (handwritten) in the “STUDENT SIGNATURE (Required)” field and fill in the “Date” field and send it as a PDF file.
  2. Proof of English proficiency (TOEIC, TOEFL, IELTS, etc.), for the applicants whose first language is not English.
  3. When submitting the above documents, please include your name (in Kanji characters, if applicable), affiliation, grade, and student number in the body of the email.
