Working is not just about earning money, it also has a great meaning, such as finding fulfillment in one's work. However, in today's Japan, the gender role division of labor is strong, with men working and women staying at home. This overlaps with the gender roles of masculinity and femininity, and women's wages and careers are suppressed, while men are expected to lead a work-centered life. Women are also often forced to make choices such as quitting their jobs or adjusting their working style when it comes to marriage, childbirth, childcare, or elderly care. We need a work-in-life approach that positions work as a part of life and lifestyle, including whether or not to work. Using the contemporary issues women face when working as a starting point, let's think together about what is needed to create a society where everyone can be themselves and value both work and family.
