Hokkaido University CoSTEP will hold a 20th anniversary event.

Hokkaido University CoSTEP was established in 2005, the year often referred to as the first year of science communication. Science cafés were held across the country, and courses on science and technology communication were established at universities. Hokkaido University CoSTEP is unique in that it allows both Hokkaido University students and those from outside the university to learn together. The program is open to everyone, ensuring that science and technology communication remains academic and not closed to the general public, and that a diverse range of science and technology communicators can participate. People from all walks of life, including researchers, journalists, entrepreneurs, artists, designers, politicians, cartoonists, corporate public relations officers, office workers, curators, civil servants, freelance science communicators, and social activists, gather at CoSTEP to learn science and technology communication. It is this diversity that has enabled CoSTEP to continue its responsive and flexible approach. To mark its 20th anniversary, we will be holding a commemorative event, the "CoSTEP Declaration," to capitalize on this diversity.
