Hokkaido University CoSTEP, in collaboration with the Advanced Nuclear Education Consortium for Future Society (ANEC), will be holding the 142nd Science Cafe Sapporo on August 3rd, titled "Things that must be thrown away but cannot be thrown away - High school students discuss the issue of decommissioning waste."
This Science Café will invite guest Naoko Watanabe, who is working on the decommissioning issue following the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident, to discuss with high school students the topic that Watanabe herself is currently struggling with. Disposal of waste from decommissioned reactors is a difficult issue that requires consideration of many different backgrounds, not just scientific knowledge. In university research, we are sometimes faced with challenges like this that have no right answer. Why don't we help bridge the gap in opinion that no one else is willing to fill?
