Hokkaido University Museum will hold the 4th Saturday Citizen Seminar of 2025, "Myths, Constellations, and Insect Names," on July 12th.
Greek mythology is the foundation of European culture, and like Japan's Kojiki, it is deeply rooted in the hearts of people. Author Takashi Atoda has stated that "Greek mythology is a story that is still evolving." The names of the gods that appear in these beautiful and terrifying stories are used tangibly and intangibly in the product names of European brands and Japanese products, and are also widely used in the scientific names of insects and plants. By linking the names of the stars with their scientific names in a variety of ways and learning about the tragic love stories and heroic legends that exist there, people will be able to think back to the night sky and natural creations, and feel a love for all things that live on Earth.
