Hokkaido University Graduate School of Policy Studies will hold the 2025 HOPS Seminar, "International Order and War in Modern East Asia," on July 18th.

The current world situation is one in which uncertainty has increased dramatically as the existing international order has been shaken. Looking back at prewar history, the international order was thrown into disarray by Japan's overseas expansion, which ultimately led to the outbreak of World War II. It is important to gain a deeper historical understanding of why and how each country ended up at war.
To consider the current state of affairs in East Asia, we will introduce the international situation in East Asia in the 1930s and 1940s from the perspectives of China and the Soviet Union, and consider its significance.
