The Association of Eight Engineering Universities, a general incorporated association consisting of the engineering faculties and graduate schools of Hokkaido University, Tohoku University, the University of Tokyo, Tokyo University of Science, Nagoya University, Kyoto University, Osaka University, and Kyushu University, has issued a statement on the development of female science and engineering talent and doctoral candidates.

Currently, society faces increasingly complex and difficult challenges, such as a declining birthrate and aging population, climate change, and poverty. We need to face these challenges with diverse values and new wisdom. In the field of engineering, there are high expectations for women and doctorates, as they are essential elements in creating innovation. To meet this social demand, we will promote the appeal of engineering, introduce a diverse entrance examination system, such as a quota for women, and improve living and learning environments to increase the ratio of female students. Regarding doctoral human resources, we will promote two-way education between society and universities through industry-academia collaboration, and cultivate not only "doctors who delve deeply into their specialties," but also "human resources who create new value" and "human resources who can create innovation."

In addition, to strengthen information dissemination on these initiatives, we will set up a new "Connecting Engineering Web" where you can view all the events being held at each university in one place.
