The Child Development Clinical Research Center, affiliated with Faculty of Education Hokkaido University, will hold the fourth public lecture of 2024, "What is the current state of universities? - Thinking about the development of children and adults from the perspective of 'university learning'" on March 18th.
Universities are changing dramatically now. Unlike when our parents' generation was students, today's students take it for granted that they will "attend" classes, they must efficiently complete their assignments, and they must also focus on future-oriented activities such as internships. The "university as a moratorium," where students wander around to discover themselves and the world in their free time, is becoming a thing of the past. On the other hand, there is also discussion that universities should provide an education that "integrates the arts and sciences" without premature specialization. With various views on universities intersecting, what kind of "university learning" are today's students doing? Based on the reality of this situation, we will consider the challenges of university education that connects the development of children and adults.
