Professor Toshio Tsubota Hokkaido University Museum will be taking on the crowdfunding challenge "Part 3! The cutting edge of global bear research: Deciphering the future of the Earth through the ecology of bears."
There are three genera and eight species of bears in the world, but only two of them, brown bears and American black bears, are not at risk of extinction. Global warming is becoming more and more serious, and is beginning to affect the ecology of polar bears and other bears. The melting of sea ice in the Arctic has led to a decline in polar bear populations. In Japan, the decline in salmon and trout migration has led to changes in brown bears' feeding habits, a worsening nutritional condition, and an increase in their appearance in human settlements, which has become a serious problem. In response to this situation, we believe that it is necessary to tackle this issue not only as researchers, but also beyond the boundaries of the general public. In the past two crowdfunding campaigns, the circle of support has expanded more than ever before, and the media's interest has also increased. It is becoming a platform for us to tackle issues together.
In order to realize a world where humans and bears can coexist and to protect the future of the Earth, we are taking on the third crowdfunding challenge.
