The Hokkaido University Center for Human Knowledge, Brain, and AI Research and Education will hold an international workshop entitled "Moral and Legal Questions about Artificial Agents" on February 27th.

In recent years, advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics have led to a rethinking of the traditional dichotomy between humans and machines. How should we coexist with "artificial agents" that behave as if they have agency, such as recent chatbots and social robots? In this workshop, researchers from a variety of fields, both domestic and international, will engage in in-depth discussions on this philosophical issue, which is expected to become increasingly important in the future.
