In October 2024, Hokkaido University developed the "Hokkaido University GHG Inventory," which systematically compiles data on the university's greenhouse gas emissions and other information.

The Hokkaido University GHG Inventory systematically compiles data on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions at the university in order to properly grasp the university's current situation regarding GHG emissions with a view to achieving carbon neutrality. In compiling the inventory, the university refers to the GHG Protocol, which is an international standard for calculating and reporting greenhouse gas emissions, and calculates GHG emissions at all of the university's bases based on the Scope 1, 2, and 3 classifications for the seven types of GHG (CO₂, CH₄, N₂O, HFCs, PFCs, SF₆, and NF₆) specified in international agreements and national policies.

In the future, our university plans to regularly compile a GHG inventory in order to check the status of GHG emissions over time, evaluate and verify climate change countermeasures, and publicly report the status to society.
