The Pew Charitable Trusts Pew Marine Conservation Fellows Program, co-sponsored by the Center for Advanced Legal Education and Research, Hokkaido University Graduate School of Law, will hold an international symposium, "The Future of Sustainable Fisheries in Japan and Northeast Asia: New Opportunities for Institutional Reform, Regional Fisheries Governance, and Improved Management of Marine Living Resources in Japan. Opportunities" will be held on December 18.

 

This interdisciplinary symposium, held in conjunction with the launch of the Marine Policy Japan special issue, "Japan's Fisheries Law Policy in the Global Effort for Sustainable Fisheries," aims to highlight issues and challenges in sustainable fisheries management in Japan and Northeast Asia, and to discuss ways and means to advance the transition to sustainability in a context where governance frameworks for sustainable fisheries are still in the process of being established.
