The Hokkaido Medical Association will hold the 59th Hokkaido Medical Association Public Symposium, "How to Confront the Climate Crisis and Its Health Risks? - Preventing Heatstroke and Other Health Damage Related to Climate Change" on October 26th.
In recent years, heavy rains and extreme heat have become more frequent all over Japan, and cases of heatstroke have increased significantly, making us realize that we are already being affected by climate change. Extreme weather associated with climate change can not only cause heatstroke, but also disaster-related injuries, worsening lung and heart disease, and death. It can also have an impact on the health care system itself as infrastructure, such as damage to medical institutions due to disasters. We hope that this symposium will provide an opportunity to correctly understand the health risks associated with climate change and think about prevention and countermeasures.
This symposium will feature lectures by Professor Tomohito Yamada Faculty of Engineering), Professor Kotaro Matoba Faculty of Medicine, and Assistant Professor Asuna Arai Faculty of Medicine).
