Kozagawa Town, Hokkaido University Wakayama Research Forest, and the Public Relations and Community Collaboration Office, co-hosted by Institute for the Advancement of Graduate Education, will hold the "Kozagawa Town, Wakayama Prefecture x Hokkaido University Whole-Heart Exchange Festival!!" on October 25th.

This is the final event of this year's Municipality x Exchange Festival, which is being held as part of Hokkaido University's local government collaboration. Following "Kamishihoro Town", "Shiretoko-Shari Town", and "Higashi Iburi (one city and four towns)", the fourth event will be Kozagawa Town in Wakayama Prefecture. The town, with a population of about 2,400 people, is located in the southeastern part of Wakayama Prefecture and is home to Hokkaido University's only research forest outside of Hokkaido. About 15 people, including the mayor, local government officials, and members of the Hokkaido University Wakayama Research Forest will gather at Trillium. Why not join us in thinking about the possibilities of "town development x the future of universities" while listening to the voices of people involved in various fields in Kozagawa Town, a pioneer in depopulation, low birth rates and an aging population?

■ Marche (11:30-15:00)

Enjoy charcoal-grilled game (venison) sausages and warm yuzu tea!
We will also be selling various game and yuzu products, as well as a wide range of woodwork from Wakayama's research forest!

■Community meeting (15:00-17:00)

Based on presentations by local government officials from Kozagawa Town and members of the Wakayama Research Forest, participants split into small groups and had a lively exchange!

■Regional Management x University Seminar (18:15-19:45)

We will have frank and honest discussions in small groups about the possibilities for education and research in response to the following three real-life challenges facing Kozagawa Town!

  • Increase in working population
  • Increase in tourists
  • Increase in revenue and donations for local businesses
