The Hokkaido Regional Chapter of the Science Council of Japan and Hokkaido University will hold a lecture entitled "Thinking about Multicultural Coexistence from Hokkaido" on November 17th.

Currently, creating a society where people of diverse cultures, languages, and origins can live together while protecting their human rights is an important issue. Hokkaido is a region with many issues to consider regarding multicultural coexistence, such as the presence of the indigenous Ainu people, the acceptance of foreign workers amid a declining birthrate and aging population that is progressing faster than the national average, and the large number of foreign tourists visiting the region. This lecture will take up various themes related to indigenous peoples, minorities, and foreigners, and discuss them from a variety of academic fields, from cultural anthropology to computer science, as well as from the perspectives of education, medicine, and the workplace.
