Slavic-Eurasian Research Center at Hokkaido University will hold its 2024 public lecture series, "The Silk Road: Intersecting Time, Space, and Discipline," from October 21 to November 11.
What comes to your mind when you hear the word "Silk Road"? Perhaps ancient caravans traveling through the contrasting desert and oases. Perhaps modern railways or roads built with huge capital investment. The gentle sound of Yo-Yo Ma's cello and the metallic sounds made at the sites of the Belt and Road, which are moving forward at a fast pace, are all part of the melody of the Silk Road ensemble. However, the Silk Road we will travel this time is not limited to ancient "romance" or modern "great powers". Rather, by visiting the six intersections located along the way, I would like to attempt to think about what this road has crossed, not from the perspective of the lines, but from the points where the lines connect.
