The Hokkaido University Faculty of Humanities and Human Sciences Applied Ethics and Philosophy Research and Education Center will hold the 36th Applied Ethics and Philosophy Symposium: Rethinking Philosophical Methodology on October 19th.

In philosophy, intuitive judgments in fictional cases (thought experiments) have traditionally been emphasized, but with the development of experimental philosophy since the 2000s, this traditional methodology has been called into question. In this project, philosophers, psychologists, and AI researchers work together to interdisciplinary explore the role that thought experiments should play in philosophy. In this workshop, project members with different academic backgrounds will discuss the possibility of new philosophical methodologies.
