The Survival Strategy Research Unit Slavic-Eurasian Research Center, Hokkaido University (SRCW) and the Center for Research on Global Risks, Nagasaki University (CGR) will hold the SRCW/CGR Co-Creation Seminar for the Real World, "Towards a World Without Nuclear Weapons," online on September 20th.

Since the end of the Cold War, the number of nuclear weapons in the world has been declining due to the drastic reductions made by the United States and Russia, but in the 2020s, the number has started to increase again due to the nuclear buildup in China, North Korea, India, and Pakistan. Is a nuclear-free world possible? Why do some countries consider nuclear weapons necessary? In order to realize a nuclear-free world, we need to create a world where nuclear weapons are not needed, that is, a "world without nuclear weapons." Based on this awareness, I would like to talk about the issue of nuclear weapons from a slightly different perspective than the conventional discussions.
