The Hokkaido University Faculty of Education Child Development Clinical Research Center will hold a public lecture entitled "What is Intercultural Education? - Hints for Multicultural Coexistence Learned from Italy" on September 18th.

Intercultural education is a form of symbiosis education that cultivates the ability to act and think in order to tackle social issues together, while learning to accept, deepen mutual understanding and respect differences between people with different linguistic and cultural backgrounds through dialogue and exchange. It has been adopted in Italy since the 1990s and has been considered an education that builds better relationships between minority immigrants with diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds and the majority Italian population. In this article, we will introduce the background of Italy, where intercultural education was born, and then invite Niki, who is raising children in Italy, online as a guest to talk about her experiences in the multicultural society of Milan and her intercultural experiences as a parent.
