The Accessibility Support Office of the Hokkaido University Student Counseling Center, in collaboration with the Center for Teaching and Learning and the Career Center, will be holding a training session (FD/SD) on supporting students with disabilities in higher education on August 27th.

This training session is aimed at faculty and administrative staff of our university, faculty and staff of higher education institutions, and faculty and staff of high schools.

In April 2016, the Act on Promotion of Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (commonly known as the Disability Discrimination Elimination Act) came into force, and as a national university corporation, our university is now required to "prohibit discrimination against persons with disabilities" and "provide reasonable accommodations." According to the results of an annual survey on students with disabilities conducted by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO), the number of students with disabilities entering university is increasing year by year. Hokkaido University is also seeing a similar trend, and there are more opportunities for faculty and staff to accommodate students with disabilities. The number of students with developmental disabilities entering university is also increasing. Students with developmental disabilities may have difficulty in various aspects of university life, but they often have difficulty in job hunting.

This time, we will be welcoming the lecturer from Sapporo Challenged, an NPO in Sapporo that provides employment transition support. He will talk about the tips for dealing with people with developmental disabilities that he has learned through his daily work such as employment transition support.
