To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the founding of Hokkaido University, the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Yomiuri Shimbun, and the 70th anniversary of international cooperation, the Graduate Research Faculty of Media and Communication at Hokkaido University, the Hokkaido branch of the Yomiuri Shimbun, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will hold an open symposium, "Thinking about a new world from Hokkaido University - Be ambitious! Proposals for the future -" on October 5th.

The world, Asia, and Japan are burdened with global issues that must be resolved, such as conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, the confrontation between democracy and authoritarianism, geopolitical risks, a declining birthrate and aging population, and global warming. Based on Hokkaido University's themes for the "next 150 years," "Sustainability," "Innovation," and "Diversity," the keynote speech will address how we should face the "new world," and there will also be a discussion on "developing human resources to support the future."
