The Survival Strategies Research Unit Slavic-Eurasian Research Center (SRCW) at Hokkaido University will hold the SRCW/CGR Co-Creation Seminar for the Real World, "Interdependence and Peace: Will Economics Overcome Politics?" on September 9th.

After the end of the Cold War, international economic interdependence increased, and the idea that this very interdependence leads to the creation and maintenance of peace became widespread. The reality of Russia's war in Ukraine seems to be that politics, regardless of economics, is aggravating the conflict. Is economic interdependence really powerless against politics? This report will analyze the relationship between economy and peace by comparing international trade dependencies, with a focus on China.

This seminar is co-hosted by the Center for Research on Global Risks (CGR), Nagasaki University, the National Institutes for the Humanities Core Research Project "East Eurasian Studies" Slavic-Eurasian Research Center Hokkaido University (EES), and the Border Studies Unit Slavic-Eurasian Research Center Hokkaido University (UBRJ).
