Deep Sea and Life content has been published on the special website "Fish of the Month (FoM)*" of our university's Faculty of Fisheries Sciences.

This FoM, we will be discussing the topic of the "deep sea."

For the final content of Fish of the Month, we chose a topic related to the deep sea. It is an area that is difficult to reach even if you want to visit, and that is why it has attracted the interest of many people. We decided to have researchers from the Hokkaido University Faculty of Fisheries Sciences, who are studying the "deep sea" using various approaches, introduce some of its charms and results. The bloodline that once owned the submersible "Kuroshio" and pioneered the marine frontier has certainly been passed down to the current Faculty of Fisheries Sciences, changing the research approach. New knowledge related to the deep sea is being obtained one after another from various perspectives based on physics, chemistry, and biology. We hope that this "deep sea" content will be the "beginning of the end" and awaken a new generation that will lead research on the sea and the creatures that gather there.

From October 2024, the grand opening of the new library-museum complex for the Faculty of Fisheries Sciences, Hokkaido University, is scheduled.. It will house and store a wealth of academic materials, including the fish specimens introduced at FoM and information on the Kuroshio. Seeing is believing. We look forward to your visit.
