The Hokkaido University One Health Research Center and the Hokkaido University One Health Frontier Graduate School Program will hold an open lecture for the public, "Which eggs should I buy tomorrow? - Considering chicken animal welfare from multiple perspectives" on August 10th.

Our lives are supported by many animals. For example, many of us enjoy eating eggs on a daily basis, but where do the chickens that lay those eggs live, and how do they live? In recent years, starting in Europe, the idea of animal welfare has been spreading internationally. Animal welfare is also called "animal happiness," but how can we measure animal happiness? Also, how does the pursuit of animal happiness affect our lives? In this public lecture, we will consider such unanswered questions together with researchers in animal welfare, animal behavior, agricultural economics, and veterinary medicine.
