Faculty of Environmental Earth Science at Hokkaido University will hold a public lecture series for 2024 entitled "Technologies and challenges in biology: Clues to solving environmental issues" from August 27th to September 24th.
We are currently facing various environmental problems. There are many challenges, such as climate change and environmental pollution, and in many cases, these challenges are related to biological phenomena. For example, greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane are emitted from the use of fossil fuels, which are believed to originate from living organisms themselves or from the remains of living organisms. In addition, many organisms are facing the threat of extinction due to threats to their habitats caused by human activities. Biology itself aims to clarify the phenomenon of life, but attempts to clarify this phenomenon may provide clues that lead to the solution of environmental problems. In this course, researchers will talk in their own words about the research of organisms that live in various environments such as the ocean and forests, and new perspectives that have emerged from their research activities. We look forward to seeing many of you there.
